Asian grocery stores and supermarkets stock ingredients, snacks and household goods that general American supermarkets often do not carry, organized by category rather than by country of origin in most stores. Produce and live or fresh seafood sections are usually at the back or side of the store, and weekend mornings bring the largest crowds and freshest restock. Many larger Asian supermarkets include a hot deli or food court counter selling prepared meals by the pound or as fixed plates, useful for a quick lunch while shopping. Labels are frequently bilingual or untranslated, so store staff can usually help locate a specific ingredient if you ask. Cash, cards and mobile pay are all commonly accepted at larger chains; smaller specialty shops may be cash-preferred.

Des Plaines is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Des Plaines follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Been coming to Don's since I was a teenager in the 70's. Haven't been here in a while, but it was a s good as it was the last time I was here about 10 years ago. First time here for my wife and sister in law, and they loved it. Great place to go before a show at the Des Plaines Theater!

Great experience. Reminds me of Skip One in Ft. Myers. Very friendly staff. Look forward to trying other meals. Had the code meal with clam chowder. Excellent New England Clam Chowder. Will return next time I'm in the area.

Ordered to go, so I can't judge the service or ambiance. Good prices for what you get. Their red beans and rice are darn good, with a nice spice. Gumbo was good, with a good roux, but slightly sweet and no real spice to it. It had plenty of shrimp, and I got a couple of meals out of it. If I were in New Orleans, it would probably receive a low score, but by Chicago standards, it is good. They used okra in their gumbo, which some may consider sacrilege. However, it was properly prepared, and I like okra, so I approve. Their jambalaya and fried rice were approved of by others in the family. Overall, good food and good value. If it weren't for my gout, I'd be eating here a lot more often.

It seems that this place has improved the fry batter. I had fried fish from here a number of years ago, and it wasn't something I liked. It seemed too thick, so enjoying the fish wasn't so great because you were eating mostly batter. We went back and the batter just seemed better, more proportionate to the fish. The fish is always of high quality and freshness. Cole slaw is tasty too. It's a busy place with limited seating, so be prepared for that.

WHAT A GEM! Stayed in nearby Arlington Heights and just picked this place based on local reviews and they were right on the money. This stalwart of the area didn't stay in business all this time by luck. Met and talked to the daughter of the owner who wondered how we found the place since we had never been in the area. The staff was very friendly and helpful since the menu offerings are plentiful and can be overwhelming for the first timer. We had the following: - Crab cake meal, I was able to substitute potato salad for coleslaw since I don't like it. - Lobster roll meals with fries. - Hush puppies. I've thought about the crab cakes many times since returning home. The crab cakes were full of crab, not a filler patty flavored with some crab meat. Since I'm not a large portion eater (grazer) I struggled to finish both cakes, I'd opt for the crab cake sandwich next time if we ever go to Chicago again. It was one of my favorite meals during an 11 day road trip all the way down to GA through all the states south of Iowa, and back. Lobster rolls were delicious, not too much mayo and just a little celery for added flavor and crunch. Bread was well prepared, just a delicious lobste
